Final Thoughts and Conclusion

Don't let anyone have you believe that High Definition Televisions are the future. A more correct statement is that HDTV's are the present, the here and now, and have already been around for a few years. Unfortunately, not everyone is up to speed, and some are going to be very surprised by the changes in store ahead. You see, by the time this article is published there will be exactly one year remaining until D-Day hits and the transition to an all-digital terrestrial broadcast begins. In past articles Benchmark Reviews gave you specific instructions on how to survive this digital transition, which offered a guide on how to smartly buy your first HDTV. However, in this article we test one of the better alternatives for step-up consumers who want to enjoy full high-definition content without falling into the money pit. Benchmark Reviews has cleared a space atop the entertainment center to inspect the SOYO MT-SYXRT4791AB 47-Inch LCD 1080p Widescreen HDTV in this performance review.

Now that analog televisions are finally a page in the history books (with or without a transition looming), consumers almost have no real choice in the matter except to get onboard the digital revolution. It would make good sense to know what you should be shopping for. Just as it is with computers, the difference between buying obsolete from cutting edge has nothing to do with looks. There are a few very basic items that should be considered a "given" in HDTV technology, and these are the basic rules I mentioned in our how-to guide. Benchmark Reviews will explore what the SOYO MT-SYXRT4791AB has to offer, and we will decide if this 47" LCD 1080p widescreen HDTV is going to be worth the money for those people caught in the middle of this era of technology upgrade.

I own this soyo 47" LCD i feel that this the greatest LCD/HDTV ever made. have you noticed how Samsung/Philips and all American made LCD,s break down after the first year well is by design because they want you to spend more money.
I have my Soyo for 5 years and still working great friends of mine have purchased Samsung/Vizio and other Amercan brands and already have power problems video problems and god knows what else. this is why i buy over seas i spend my money over seas and spend my hard earned money on GARBAGE these US companies make.
Is to bad that Soyo is nolonger making LCD,s otherwise i would own a Soyo to every room in my house.
The US govement should get involved and make these manufactures recall their crappy defective American made sets no wonder the japs /Chinese/Asia for that matter are ahead of us because they know electronics well.

...and denigrate whole cultures/continents at the same time.

Can you point to any LCD plants producing commercial products in the USA?

For one California is one state that produces LCD,s for Vizion Televisions. Taiwanese make the LCD Screens for Vizio but the problem is hardly ever the screen is the components which some are made right here in the states. Sony,s are manufactured in Bulgaria and Hungary the point is that if the merchandize is going to be sold here why the US govement make it their business to make sure that it is quality that we are getting and not garbage so see is just as much the US fault for allowing crap to be sold here. the reason is because all we care about is making the DAM money capitalism. Hey im an A+ certified technician since 1990 and i work on these LCD/Plasma i see the garbage and after a year or so the set malfunctions is the US govement fault for allowing this

# Of the people, by the people, for the peopleBruceBruce 2011-03-31 14:37
...and the people want to buy cheap stuff! Really, really cheap stuff!
They do it because they think they are gettinga better deal than the next person, and human nature has a very strong competitive component.
Time and time again, companies have staked their claim in the marketplace by undercutting the existing price structure. Vizio is a great example, as you pointed out.

You can't blame capitalism, dude. As long as people base their purchasing decision on their instincts instead of doing some basic analysis, the world will operate on the principle of: "There's a sucker born every minute."
