Renice-Tech Mini PCI-E 70mm SandForce SSD

All of the great features we've seen in other SandForce-driven SSDs, but in a smaller package.

By now, everyone with an interest in Solid State Drive technology has heard of SandForce. They're the company behind the now-legendary SandForce SF-1200 SSD Processor. SandForce-driven SSDs have come in 2.5" form factor SATA drives, and also 4x PCI-Express packages. Thanks to Renice Technology, now they're also available in the 70mm Mini PCI-E package.

Aside from the form factor, there's very little difference between the Renice-Tech Mini PCI-E 70mm SSD and the many other SandForce-driven products we've previously tested on the SATA interface. This 70mm SandForce Mini-PCIe SSD was designed for the ASUS Eee PC platform, and is certified compatible with the ASUS Eee PC 900, 900A, 901, 901 Go, and ASUS Eee PC S101. The Mini PCIe SSD measures 69.73 x 31.5 x 3.26mm.

Similar to the full-size SATA SSD's, the Renice-Tech 70mm SSD offers maximum read and write speeds up to 260 MB/s. Thanks to the unrestricted SandForce firmware, sequential read operations are good for 50,000 IOPS, while random read IOPS produce 30,000 (@4K blocks). Random write IOPS is also good for 30,000 IOPS (@4K blocks), with a 10,000 IOPS sustained burst.

As you've probably noticed, many of the features and specifications are identical to the other SandForce SF-1222 based SSDs. As such, MTBF is rated for 2,000,000 hours, and ECC is computed as 24 bytes correctable per 512-byte sector. Unrecoverable read errors account for less than 1 sector per 1016 bits read, and includes an auto bad block management system. Renice-Tech specifies the input voltage as 3.3V ±5%, with only 0.5W idle power draw and 2W at full load.

Awesome product.
I found stock ASUS eee PCs almost unusable under Windows and only slightly more usable under Ubuntu Linux, due to the pathetic stock SSD.
This product will certainly make a such a netbook more usable.

Would be great to see a comparative review between a "stock" SSD, a Runcore aftermarket SSD and this brand new Renice-Tech SSD.
Based on the specs, the Renice-Tech one will probably win, but it would be really great to be able to see the numbers.

I'm confident Chris Ramseyer (at TweakTown) will do exactly that when he tests the 70mm SSD. Be patient though, because he won't receive it from me until late next week.
