Starcraft 2 Graphics & Sound
The sequel will feature, as you probably understood, a whole new 3D engine in order to render the beautiful world of Starcraft. The really great news is that Blizzard thinks about fans that still have weaker machines and wants them to enjoy the game as well. The game's minimum requirements will be kept as low as possible while still providing amazing graphics for those with newer and more powerful machines.
Although fully compatible with DirectX 10, it is yet not certain if the game will offer special effects for DirectX 10. What we do know is that DirectX 9 (Pixel Shader 2.0) will be supported.
Also, Havok physics engine will be used to create a more realistic reaction in the dynamic game world.
The sound effects in the game, again - based on the gameplay movies, highly resemble the original sounds used in Starcraft, which is great. Background music seems to be the same style as well, but nothing is final yet, so it's a little too early to say.
